Body of Water

River Annan 1 other launch locations

Description

The Annan is a beautiful slow river that goes through mostly agricultural/woodland settings right down to the estuary and Annan. You can travel downstream for roughly 14km from here without hitting a weir or serious portage spot. The Water of Ae joins soon after this launch so the river widens and slows considerably.

Parking Information

Small area of parking near the river, just with car on side of road/in small lay by. Quiet road so possible van camp spot too.

Free Parking

Yes

Launching Information

No jetty or anything but it's a clear part of the bank that the local canoe/kayak club uses to launch when the water is up.

Free Launching

Yes

Paddling Information

Wouldn't recommend going upstream unless the river is up, as the river can run quite low. Downstream is the way to go. Very chilled out section of the river. Would suggest getting out when you hit the island after 14km (Linn mill is on the left hand side) if you are a newbie as the weir may be usually simple but if the river is low it can tip you if you catch on it. There are 3 more weirs after this one between you and the estuary, but it is spread between another 15km.
